A short film about painting

An immersive study of one of Britain's most singular contemporary figurative painters, Nicholas C. Williams, filmed primarily at his cavernous studio, a former lifeboat station on the north coast of Cornwall.

Shot over a period of seven years and interwoven with archival material, the documentary reveals the artist's painting process as he works directly from the model in a blacked out studio, drawing on symbolism and the focused use of light.

A studio visit by fellow painter Marcelle Hanselaar sees the two artists in conversation, offering an insight into William's life and work.

The film is enriched by music from the celebrated composer and conductor John Adams and composer of electronic music and experimental media Richard Karpen.

The screening will include a pre-film conversation with the documentary's director, Lee Evans.
